Zane Lowe

The radio DJ-come-presenter-come-live-DJ-come-producer-come-general music guru Zane Lowe also known as ‘Zipper’, will once again be taking to the Wakestock stage. Having performed and put out records himself as part of Kiwi hip-hop group Urban Disturbance during the Nineties, Lowe travelled and came to the UK to make a viable living out of talking about, as well as producing music, something that he felt was just not an option in his home New Zealand. He initially worked for indie rock radio station XFM and was the face of flagship MTV2 programme Gonzo before landing a job at Radio 1 in 2003, a move that he says was as intimidating as it was exciting. But soon, Lowe would join that roll call of Britain’s most recognised and influential DJs, being credited with the discovery of many-a-household name, including the likes of the Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party and The Killers. He was the first DJ to play ‘Crazy’ by Gnarls Barkley on UK radio, which then went on to be he first ever single to go to number one in this country on downloads alone in 2006.He presents BBC Radio 1′s evening show, where he plays a variety of alternative music, including rock, punk, dance, drum and bass, and hip hop and is as influential on the stage as he is behind missing desk. In Autumn 2012 Zane embarked on his jam-packed ‘Electrified Tour’, playing host to the biggest University Fresher’s events throughout the UK. Shortly afterwards he jetted to America to perform alongside Knife Party in The Haunted House Tour, performing at some of the most distinguished and influential venues in the USA, including a set at LA’s HARD ‘Day of the Dead’.As a DJ, presenter and performer, Zane Lowe is smashing it and he will no doubt have some serious surprises up his sleeve for 2013.Check him out at www.zanelowe.com or why not follow him on good old Facebook www.facebook.com/zanelowe or Twitter www.twitter.com/zanelowe
