At 17 HUW STEPHENS was the youngest ever presenter on BBC Radio One. Now he is the station’s champion for new bands. Stephens was born in Cardiff and he joined Radio 1 at the age of 17 in 1999 as part of the station's new regional output where he hosted the Wales opt-out with Bethan Elfyn. Before this he was a DJ on Rookwood Sound Hospital Radio in Llandaff, Cardiff. In 2005, Huw finally gained a national slot when he became one of the replacements for the late John Peel as part of the station's One Music strand, which was intended to keep the spirit of Peel's show going. Huw now broadcasts throughout the week and is one of the most popular DJ’s on the station. He has been described as the Welsh champion of music that is both good and new, often at the same time and is held in high regard throughout the industry. He has been a huge supporter of Wakestock over the years and we welcome him back with open arms!
