Tipped by Q Magazine as one of '10 DJs you must see before you die', and voted alongside DJ Premier as 'One of the Top Three DJ's in the World' in Hip Hop Connection magazine, DJ Yoda is no ordinary scratch DJ.

FRIENDLY FIRES

Formed out of the ashes of the St Albans hardcore band they formed while still at school, Friendly Fires make razor-sharp post-punk that burns through the memories of all the dismal, skinny jeaned ‘80s revivalists you’ve been hearing these past few years. Sounding brittle, knotty and urgent, Friendly Fires are the real deal. With no fat or padding on them at all, their songs possess an elegant sparseness. As guitarist Edd Gibson notes: “The hardest thing I think is to know what to leave out, to know when something is enough.” But amongst all the stripped-back twists, there are also moments full of deep, blessed-out melodies. “I love lush, massive, tingly chords; the My Bloody Valentine sound,” says bassist and singer Ed MacFarlane.
With the single done and an album in the works, expect to see Friendly Fires play out live in and around the UK regularly in the next few months, travelling to both Wakestock Blenheim and Wakestock Abersoch. When they do, expect to dance

ROYWORLD

Royworld are one of the most distinct and disarmingly unique bands in a very long time. Their epic eccentricity in both sound and production has created a bold and new indie rock, that is sure to go down well with the Wakestock crowds.
The band that draw on influences such as Roxy Music, Peter Gabriel and Talking Heads and Royworld are already being championed by the likes of Jo Whiley at Radio 1 and Dermot O'Leary on Radio 2. Their live following is growing rapidly, captivated by a sense of drama, and Rod Futrille's endearing awkwardness.
Royworld formed at London's Goldsmiths in early 2006. Watch out for them at Wakestock this year. They are set to be huge!

THE DYKEENIES

“Scotlands biggest and best new band ….a weird and utterly brilliant hybrid of the Killers and Panic at the Disco. Only they will probably end up being bigger than both.” NME. GENOD DROOG

Genod Droog were formed in early 2005 in a police cell in Cardiff, after being caught up in a soccer hooligan rumble and being wrongly accused. This is where Dutch DJ Kim De Bills met Mr Phormula, an American-born Welsh bred rapper. Following a discussion about soccer chants, the topic turned to music. Thankfully, no arrest was made and Genod Droog was born. Mix a black rapper, a Dutch DJ, a Breton born French speaking Welshman, a South Korean born drummer and a Northern Korean keyboard/guitar player, and you get the amazing sound of Genod Droog. The sound is a mixture of TV themes, French electro Pop, Welsh folk, hip hop, dance and funk, all reflected in a live show. Following their first show on top of Snowdon, the highest mountain throughout England and Wales, they were signed to the Welsh label, Slacyr Records.

MATT COSTA

Former skateboard pro Matt Costa signed to surfer Jack Johnson’s label on the strengths of some very workman-like pop songs and a smooth, appealing voice. A gifted multi instrumentalist Costa is also an ex-professional skateboarder who turned to music full-time after a serious accident left him laid out for 18 months. He re-presents his life in a mixture of words and melody, and the seeming effortlessness with which he performs leaves one wondering why song writing isn't a more common form of communication. Matt Costa's skill with a guitar is immediately apparent, especially in a live setting.

ESSER

Formerly the drummer with Ladyfuzz, Esser has emerged from the ashes to produce electro-acoustic pop. With the aide of a computer and crucial key of E, Esser has created melodies for eccentrics at trendy indie discos. His woeful tales of troubled times with women are delivered with superb cockneyed comedic effect in the likes of ‘Headlock’ while songs like ‘Satisfied’ take on an techno Turkish tango feel. /abersoch_images/happy_mondays_pro.jpgThe legendary Happy Mondays rose to fame in the 80’s within the Manchester rave scene, releasing classic albums such as Pills, Thrills and Bellyaches, including huge hits like Kinky Afro and Step On. They have reformed and are back and receiving critical acclaim with their album Uncle Dysfunktion. This time, their comeback is partially down to Damon Albarn. The success of Dare, the Gorillaz single with vocals by Mondays frontman and lyricist Shaun Ryder, put the band back in the studio. Some may dismiss this as a money comeback but Uncle Dysfunktional marks the return of Shaun Ryder's psychedelic gangster lyricism, a totally unique voice that's been missed from the music landscape. There recent comeback is a huge amount of fun and a reminder that it's great that the Happy Mondays have never completely disappeared, and can always re-ignite the nostalgia of the Madchester glory days. For the legions of loyal followers of Shaun and co, it will definitely satisfy. The Mondays' have never taken themselves or the music too seriously and now that they're older thankfully that hasn't changed. Wakestock are sure to love them! www.myspace.com/happymondaysmusic/abersoch_images/harris.jpgCalvin Harris is one of those ‘myspace sensations’ you keep reading about. A cult producer-slash-singer-slash-bedroom-knob-twiddler who can make the banging-est of pop-dance tunes out of bugger-all kit. Calvin Harris’s first release ‘Acceptable In The 80s’ was hugely popular on dance floors around the country and he says that he produces tunes “just to get you dancing.” Calvin Harris should make the Wakestock crowd go off! www.myspace.com/calvinharristv

They released their debut single "You and Me" back in October 2007 and have gone from strength to strength ever since. The huge hit "Just for Tonight" was the second single to be released from their great album “Started a Fire” and Radio 1’s support saw it rise to number 9 in the singles chart. /abersoch_images/youngknives.jpgThis English geek rock and post-punk revival band are from Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire. The name is based on a misunderstanding of "young knaves", which was found by the band by rummaging through a book.
The band is known for its energetic live performances and their taste in tweed outfits. They broke into the music industry in 2002 with the critical success of their debut mini-album The Young Knives... Are Dead, but began to garner national coverage upon the release of their single "The Decision" in late 2005 (partially due to the acclaim of its dark humoured, League of Gentlemen-esque video). They played their biggest live gig in June 2006 and recently completed a UK tour in support of their first proper album Voices of Animals and Men, which reached #21 in the UK Album Charts. In July 2007 they were nominated for the Nationwide Mercury Prize.

/abersoch_images/plump_djs_pro.jpgEmerging from the nascent Nu Skool Breaks scene at the end of the last century, the Plump DJs are the quintessential production duo. Over the course of fifteen acclaimed singles and three superlative albums, Andy Gardner and Lee Rous have become heavyweights of cutting edge club music.
In the beginning Andy was enjoying success as a producer on Freskanova Records working under the pseudonyms of Bowser and Cut & Paste when he began DJing regularly at the infamous Passenger night. The Plumps were born when the two friends who partied together decided to put their energy into their own music.
www.myspace.com/plumpdjs/abersoch_images/mystery_jets.jpg Mystery Jets formed in the late 90’s when a son (Blaine Harrison) and father (Henry Harrison) formed a band together, recruiting school friends to make up the band. Hailing from Eel Pie Island in London, Mystery Jets are a prog/psychedelia-influenced British indie band who cross over many genres yet don’t bind themselves to any one in particular.
Having released with success a number of EP’s and their album ‘Making Dens’ in 2006, their year-long tour was a huge success including a stint on the road with the Arctic Monkeys on the NME Awards Tour 2006. The band released their second album, ‘Twenty One’ on March 24th, 2008. Henry Harrison doesn’t play live with them anymore, but is still involved in writing and recording. /abersoch_images/goldierocks.jpg
That is Sam Hall a blonde-haired vixen and rock n roll talent-spotter de jour. Her year old, monthly self-titled club night at the Elbow Room, Islington said it all. A great success; Sam's ultimate Electro-Rock N Roll Disco has showcased a combination of established live acts, guest DJs, and hotly-tipped newcomers. Rather than be constrained to the limitations of one location, Sam is now invading venues all over London and the UK, hosting events as varied as her music collection from vast, overwhelming club-nights, to intense exclusive showcases, kooky one-offs and afterparty/private luxury soirees. Sam's extended activities stretch to DJ'ing at parties and aftershows all over the land - at some point in time, Sam's probably hijacked your fave indie haunt, such as the Reading Festival.

/abersoch_images/huw.jpg
Huw joined Radio 1 at the age of 17. He had presented his own show on hospital radio, getting the independent Ankst to kindly sponsor his show with records and CDs, which he played to an audience expecting to hear Bryan Adams. He answered phones on BBC Radio Cymru shows, listened to the radio, bought music and went to as many gigs as he could. While a bit drunk and rapping the lyrics from a Welsh hip hoppers Tysion track late at night on the streets of Aberystwyth, he met Bethan Elfyn, who he went on to co-present the Radio 1 Wales show with. The show highlighted the best underground and alternative releases of the day, and concentrated on the vibrant and eclectic music scene in Wales. In 2005, Huw finally gained a national slot when he became one of the replacements for the late John Peel as part of the station's One Music strand, which was intended to keep the spirit of Peel's show going. Huw now broadcasts in a twice weekly slot. He also stands in for Steve Lamacq, Zane Lowe, Rob da Bank and Colin Murray whenever they're on holiday

BRANDON BLOCK

Brandon Block is probably one of, if not the most entertaining and unique DJ and personality you'll ever find. He's best known for his uplifting party house music behind the decks, and his infamous havoc causing antics on the other side of the turntables. Brandon's taste is eclectic and when it comes to pleasing the dance floor, he will play anything that will move the crowd. Brandon has released three hugely successful compilation albums for 'Fantazia' the first ever club classic albums, which people still talk about today. CAZALS

Rock at its finest - the supremely talented Cazals are all in their early 20s but undeniably gifted in the time-honoured medium of rock'n'roll. Utterly infectious songs laden with energetic electro hooks and dance floor energy. It is no surprise that this cockney quintet, though only a few singles into their stride, are starting to get noticed with their slightly tugging, no frills edge. The Cazals use an 80's soft rock approach to ensure that their forthcoming debut album doesn't go unnoticed and, that they don’t go unseen as festival time approaches. Wakestock will love them!
