WORLD'S BEST WAKEBOARDERS CONFIRMED FOR NORTH WALES
As
you should all know, Relentless Wakestock is the biggest event on the
World Wakeboard Calendar and we’ve got the very best riders from around
the globe joining us next week to compete here in North Wales. You’ll
see them at the Mystic Big Air event on Abersoch Beach, on the Pool Gap
in the middle of the festival site at Penrhos and of course at the main
Pro Boat event at Pwllheli Marina.
Here are some of the legends in the sport to look out for competing for a piece of the $30,000 prize purse:
NICK DAVIES, UK - Relentless Wakestock Champ & World Cable Champion Welcome
to the rise and rise of Mr Davies. 2009 saw a World title, Wakestock
number 1 spot and National title in the bank. Two Hyperlite pro model
boards, an ever increasing list of accolades and video parts as well as
an army of fans the world over, Nick has all the momentum and ability
to take the title again in 2010.
HARLEY CLIFFORD, AUSTRALIA - WWA World Series Current Leader Unstoppable
is the only way to describe this 16 year old Australian’s form. 100%
record since taking the 2009 US Pro Tour title in September last year.
The victory at Wakestock Abu Dhabi set him on course towards that WWA
Series win but will Harley keep the same cool head on his young
shoulders on the massive stage that is Relentless Wakestock UK.
PHILIP SOVEN, USA - 3 x WWA World Series Champion The
most prolific contest rider of all time! The reigning WWA Wake World
Series Champion is currently 2nd to Harley this year, but going for
that unprecedented 4th World Series title and will need all this
experience to claw back the points on Harley.
RUSTY MALINOSKI, CANADA - Former World Champion Not
a guy to be messed with on or off the water, this powerhouse from
Canada while training to become a UFC fighter, managed to rack up a
World title of his own, and be the first person to land a 1080 (3
complete rotations of board and body) in contest and is currently
sitting in third in the world series this year. A big finish is needed
in the UK to stay in reach of glory which means we may well see that
1080.
AARON RATHY, CANADA - Rider of the Year 2009 A hunger
for excellence and progression that scares other riders and ability
that leaves most in awe. Having landed the most different combinations
of 1080s than any other rider, and a whole dictionary of innovated
moves, he will need this same form that saw him become 2009 World
Champion, to get on to the podium come Sunday Night!
DAN NOTT, UK - 4 x Relentless Wakestock Winner and current European Champion First
UK rider to stomp a 900 in contest, multiple British National Titles
and British Tour titles as well as the man to beat at every Wakestock.
Dan has been at the top of his game putting everyone in their place for
over a decade, revels in the North Wales festival atmosphere and along
with Nick is our best chance of keeping the foreigners away from the
top spot.
NICOLA BUTLER, UK - US Pro Tour Champion The
youngster on the Women’s Pro Circuit shot to world wide stardom
knocking the regulars off the top spots in 2008 and taking the tour
title. An effortless style that was discovered in the UK and honed on
the international wakeboard scene to secure her position as one of the
best female riders on the planet.
AMBER WING, AUSTRALIA - Australian National Champion Amber
goes hard out on the water proven by such feats as being the first
woman to ever land a 720. Wakestock Abu Dhabi saw her in second place
and at her first Relentless Wakestock UK she definitely has it in her
to take the glory.
ROBBIE RENDO, ARGENTINA - 2 x Relentless Wakestock Champ Robbie
knows the Wakestock score all too well making it to the podium more
than once. A past european & World title holder, she’s a big fan of
the UK scene spending a lot of time here, she’ll certainly be a big
threat and on course for her 3rd Wakestock Win!
With the action
so intense down at Pwllheli Marina each day (timings below), you'd be
forgiven for needing a break before the party kicks off each of the
three nights up on the Festival site. Well, the Wakeboarding has been
brought to the people so these same riders can perform insane death
defying maneuvers across our too mammoth pools of water built and
placed pride of place in the middle of the party, with 180,000 gallons
of water in total filling the huge pools. The Pool Gap head to head
battle will play out over every evening of the Wakestock weekend
against the backdrop of 10s of thousands of people in awe of the Action
and the world class music line-up!
You must also get down to
Abersoch Beach on Friday (5:30pm - 7:00pm) for the Mystic Big Air,
where the world’s best will be hitting the floating kicker right on the
shoreline to go as big as possible, whilst performing inverts &
spins.
Never before has the UK or Europe had so many of the best
wakeboarders of all time descend on one venue for one event, so it’s
definitely something not to be missed.
