RELENTLESS WAKESTOCK 2010 IS GO!

Relentless Wakestock UK 2010 is well underway with the most amazing first day of riding in the event’s history. For what is billed as the ‘Open Qualifying day’, the standard was outstanding. It’s a chance for the best riders amongst those entered with Wild Card and those just starting out in their rise to wakeboarding stardom to qualify and compete with the best in the world on the Saturday, as wakestock is now part of the World Series. The high level of riding today, just goes to show how hard and fast the progression of British wakeboarding is right now.

With a select number of riders who had pre qualified for this day from 2009 and those added to the list from the first ever Wakestock Qualifier event a few weeks ago, there was a full line up of 15 guys and 8 girls entertaining the thousands that lined Pwllheli Marina with crystal clear skies, butter water and burning sun to get all those Wakestockers well in the mood for a weekend to remember.

Each and every rider laid it all on the line to take the top spots, come away with the prizes and more importantly qualify for the next round of riding. Stand out performances came, as expected, from two of the best female riders in the world at their first ever Wakestock, Amber Wing and Nicola Butler. Sick rail riding, with smooth technical inverts and spins secured the top two spots for them and not to be outdone, former Wakestock Champ Jules Haley and local girl Sam Filsell made up positions 6 and 7 in the Final taking place on Sunday. In the Men’s Division, it was those who’d started their attack on the Wakestock title back in June at the qualifying event to make it through yet another round. Ireland’s David O’Caiomh, Jack Hammersley and Jack Davies taking those 3 coveted qualifying places. These riders will now be taking their rightful place alongside the seeded Pros in the second day of contest.

The first day of riding went down amazingly. Hot as anything, blue skies and some awesome waterside entertainment all got the wakeboarding off to a very good start indeed with help from the thousands lining the marina. Then it was all up to the Festival site with the raging sounds of the RAF Typhoon display and the likes of Eric Prydz, N-Dubz, Mr Hudson and Fedde Le grand to set the opening night’s party alight!

Still to come over the weekend is the Pro Qualifier & The Pro Final on Sunday, as well as more RAF displays each day and music from Maximo Park, Tinie Tempah, The Ting Tings, Chase & Status, Plan B and loads more. Huw Stephens is broadcasting live from the festival on Saturday from 1pm - 4pm and there are live broadcasts throughout the weekend on S4C.

There’s a big crowd here enjoying the 11th annual Relentless Wakestock but there are tickets still available from the Box Office on the festival site, so get yourself along and enjoy all the fun and action.
